What is Organic Cotton

What is organic cotton
Organic cotton is cotton that is grown to strict standards which protect the health of soils, ecosystems and people.

This is achieved by using only natural processes and not allowing the use of pesticides and other toxic chemicals.

The growth cycle of organic cotton

Conventional cotton growing is extremely harmful to the environment

It uses 16% of the world’s insecticides and 7% of it’s pesticides
It takes 2700 litres of water for every cotton t-shirt made
Sadly, it still accounts for 99% of the cotton used in the garment industry

In contrast, growing cotton organically,

Keeps farmers and their families’ safe
Doesn’t damage the soil
Uses 71% less water
Has less impact on the air
Uses 62% less energy
Makes water cleaner and safer
Allows farmers to grow food crops as well
Is beneficial to animals and insects
